Kinja'd!!!

All this talk of HP2 made me nostalgic, so I just had to buy a PC copy.

Man it’s been a long time since I’ve seen software come in a jewel case.

I have a Gamecube with HP2 in my house. I should set it up.

Ah, yes. The EA Seattle developed version of HP2.

In some ways it’s superior to the Black Box version for PS2, in other ways it’s inferior.

I guess the best way to get the full experience is to have a PC/Xbox/Gamecube version and a PS2 version.

So. Many. Mods.

I used to love driving around in the A-Team van getting chased by 70’s Dodge Monacos.

That soundtrack was top notch.

Did you know how different that version is compared to the PS2 version?

I remember back in the days of Napster trying to find all those songs to burn onto a CD.

I have a GameCube and HP2. Loved that game!! I should play it again, unfortunate that there is a lag in controls when the GameCube is hooked up to Hd TVs. :(

Lost all my ps1 and ps2 games when my parents moved. I think the movers may have stolen them. They were in a cd case like what we old folks used to keep in our cars.

Ohh, right in the childhood. This was my first video game, ever. It was $50 at the time.

When the Gamecube first came out, my dad took me to Best Buy, told me to pick out a Gamecube and two games, one for me and one for my sister. Got HP2 for me and Mario Party 4 for my sister. Best. NFS. Ever.

Well, I’ll tell you that there are a lot of differences between the two.

One difference is the visuals. Comparing the PS2 version to other versions, the PS2 version’s tracks are more detailed than those of the other versions.

Take the tropical tracks (Island Outskirts, Tropical Sunset, and Palm City Island) for example.

Kinja'd!!!

This is what one of those tracks looks like on the PC/Xbox/Gamecube version.

Kinja'd!!!

On the PS2 version, the setting seems more detailed, with more lush and proper foliage, better looking pavement, etc.

There’s some differences in cars, too.

In the EA Seattle (PC/Xbox/GC) version, there’s a NFS edition of the Ferrari 360 Spider. In the Black Box (PS2) version, there isn’t.

Kinja'd!!!

Instead, there’s the 360 Modena Challenge Version in the place of the NFS Edition of the Spider.

The PS2 version’s police are a bit simplified in vehicle selection, with only the Crown Victoria, M5, SVT Cobra R, Corvette Z06, and Murcielago available.

Police helicopters are a bit more capable in the PS2 version, dropping not only exploding barrels, but also barrels with spike strips and being able to shoot rockets at racers.

Unlike the other version, if you drive a cop car as a racer instead of a cop, you can still use the lights and sirens.

The EA Seattle version has the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR in it’s street form, while the Black Box version has the race car version with the street car’s wheels.

The desert tracks (Outback, Desert Heat, Rocky Canyons) are exclusive to the PS2 version.

In a pursuit, a you can call for backup on the PS2 version.

Roadblocks show up on the minimap in the PS2 version.

You can actually immobilize a police car in the PS2 version.

Also, the traffic models are different in the Black Box version, and would be reused in Underground and Underground 2.

So, if you played UG or UG2, and then went to play the PS2 version of HP2, and payed close attention to the traffic, you’d easily recognize them.

I actually recently added the PS2 traffic cars to the HP2 page on IGCD.

There’s a few other differences, but those are the main ones that are most easily noticeable.
